چکیده
People are normally restricted from accessing property without permission the owner. The principle that nonowners excluded is central to theories of ownership, and previous findings suggest it could be a core feature psychology ownership. However, we report six experiments on children (N = 480) adults 211) showing this may not apply for actions benefit owner-actions like repairing broken property. In Experiment 1, 3-5-year-olds judged more acceptable nonowner repair than move it. Experiments 2 3 replicated with 4-6-year-olds using different question wordings showed also approve replacing 4 these replicate regardless whether owner acquainted. Finally, 5 6 revealed boundary condition approval unsolicited beneficial actions: Both modifying suit owner's preferences. These restrictions less absolute often claimed, participants' judgments depended generic information about which typically beneficial, rather consideration owners' specific (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved).

متن کاملBargaining with a property rights owner
We consider a bargaining problem where one of the players, the intellectual property rights owner (IPRO) can allocate licenses for the use of this property among the interested parties (agents). The agents negotiate with him the allocation of licenses and the payments of the licensees to the IPRO. We state ve axioms and characterize the bargaining solutions which satisfy these axioms. In a sol...
متن کاملInequality in treatment benefits: Can we determine if a new treatment benefits the many or the few?
In many randomized controlled trials, the primary analysis focuses on the average treatment effect and does not address whether treatment benefits are widespread or limited to a select few. This problem affects many disease areas, since it stems from how randomized trials, often the gold standard for evaluating treatments, are designed and analyzed. Our goal is to learn about the fraction who b...
متن کاملFollow the leader if you can, hedge if you must
Follow-the-Leader (FTL) is an intuitive sequential prediction strategy that guarantees constant regret in the stochastic setting, but has poor performance for worst-case data. Other hedging strategies have better worst-case guarantees but may perform much worse than FTL if the data are not maximally adversarial. We introduce the FlipFlop algorithm, which is the first method that provably combin...
متن کاملDefining Acceptable Interaction for Universal Access
Many new assistive input systems developed to meet the needs of users with functional impairments fail to make it out of the research laboratory and into regular use by the intended end users. This paper examines some of the reasons for this and focuses particularly on whether the developers of such systems are using the correct metrics for evaluating the functional attributes of the input tech...
